Police are investigating an incident that happened at a Portage Avenue hookah bar, though they have not released any details about what happened.

On Saturday morning, several Winnipeg Police Service vehicles were parked outside Spades Lounge and Hookah Bar near the University of Winnipeg. The sidewalk in front of the building, which is between Langside and Young streets, was cordoned off with yellow police tape.

Several items lay on the ground inside the police barrier, including a pair of white sneakers, a small grey backpack and a piece of white fabric near a planter. One of the metal barricades near the building’s front door was also on the ground.

A spokesperson for the City of Winnipeg, which oversees the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, deferred questions about whether anyone was taken to hospital to police. A police duty officer could not provide further details about the incident when contacted on Saturday morning.

Officers had left the scene by Saturday afternoon.
