Staff at a cemetery near Winnipeg’s west perimeter found a car upside down in a pond at the site on Sunday morning.
Police were called to Chapel Lawn Cemetery on Portage Avenue at 9:40 a.m. after the car crashed into the retention pond, a Winnipeg Police Service spokesperson said.
One person was rescued from the car and taken to hospital in stable condition, said Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service spokesperson Kristin Cuma. A dog was found dead inside the car, Cuma said.
A spokesperson for the fire paramedic service said their crews responded at 9:12 a.m.
Later Sunday morning, the car was still submerged in the water. Police are investigating the incident.
