Westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway are closed between Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie Friday morning due to blowing snow and poor winter driving conditions.
It was completely closed earlier but eastbound lanes were reopened as of 8:12 a.m., a provincial traffic bulletin said.
CBC meteorologist John Sauder says Friday’s weather “will remind us that winter is not quite over yet,” with -11 C for a high temperature and strong winds making it feel a lot colder than the temperature says it is.
Environment Canada’s current forecast for Friday calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. The temperature as of 7 a.m. was -10 C.
It could feel like -23 C with the wind chill this morning and -14 C this afternoon.
Sauder says a developing weather system could also bring snow this Sunday.
