One person arrested, another hospitalized after stolen truck crashes into hydro pole

By | August 24, 2020

A rolled-over truck closed part of a busy intersection in Winnipeg through the morning rush hour on Monday.

Grant Avenue was blocked in both directions at Waverley Street, where the truck was lying on its side, on the boulevard and against a broken hydro pole.

Winnipeg police say the truck was stolen from a nearby coffee shop shortly before it rolled on its side at the intersection around 4:30 a.m.

Police said it was the only vehicle involved but not the only thing damaged.

The snapped pole left about 1,200 customers without power, and a set of traffic lights was also ripped down.

One woman was arrested at the scene and another person was taken to hospital.

There is no word on the condition of the injured person.

The intersection was closed until about 8:30 a.m.
